OAP Discount Initiative Print

The Jersey Consumer Council is currently promoting existing and new offers for the elderly in the form of an “OAP Discount” initiative. In our last newsletter, we requested  businesses in the Island to contact the Council to advise of any discount or advantage for OAPs that were or may be on offer. The Council has had a reasonable response so far but believes with more help from businesses it could become more widespread and, therefore, more valuable to our elderly residents in the Island. It should also benefit a business as we intend to give this on-going Island-wide publicity.

 

 

Due to high underlying rate of inflation and low interest rates on their savings, some Jersey pensioners are suffering financially. The Council has decided to do its part in helping them get by in these difficult times by appealing to Jersey businesses to take part in offering discounts to OAP’s or reminding them what is already available. Participating traders are being added to a list that will be widely circulated with the next newsletter which is distributed to all residential homes in the Island (38,500). Participating businesses will also receive a high quality A4 sized window display poster to highlight to OAPs that discounts are available within.

The Council recognises that some businesses have been offering discounts to OAP’s as part of their retail strategy for some time and that this initiative is in no way original. The Council only seeks an outcome where all businesses have an opportunity to get involved and help the elderly make their pennies stretch further.

Here is a list of all the local businesses who have contacted us so fart o sign up to join our Pensioner Discount Scheme, and also details of what they are offering:

Gallichan’s the Jewellers –a 10-15% discount /loyalty card scheme
Peter  Boydens – a £5 reduction on the price of having your chimney swept.
Hair Design – 10% discount on Wednesday afternoons
Jeff Le Marquand – 10% discount
Jersey Chiropractic Clinic – a reduction of £10 per visit
Ikon/The Loft – a 5% discount which will be in addition to any nett price (even when in sale)
Checkers/Safeway at Red Houses and St Saviour – 10% discount every second Wednesday of the month
Pants In Paradise - £1 discount off a service wash
Leaders Health Store – 10% discount on Thursday
Chris Barron. Decorator  - 15%  discount off first job and 20% off surther work
Chris Oeillet,Chris Carpet Cleaning - 15% carpet cleaning
David Wood - 10% discount
R M Lighting - 10% discount
Health Essentials - 10% discount Tuesdays and Wednesdays
