The Jersey Consumer Council needs some volunteers to increase its Membership. We currently have a number of vacancies so that we continue to build and strengthen our representation.

Wanted: Volunteers for Jersey Consumer Council: Full Details

Since 1995, the Consumer Council has established many contacts with the public and organisations mainly through issues that you have raised over the years. Now we are seeking to target and refine our way of working, to build on the work already done and strengthen consumer representation.

We are proposing to set up five working or focus groups under the umbrella of the Consumer Council in the following areas:

Travel and Transport

This would look in detail at on/off Island issues.

Air and Sea Services.

Issues covered, for example:

  • Service Level Agreements

  • Price and destinations

  • Facilities for travellers

  • Customer care

  • Baggage handling

  • Extra charges etc

On Island, Buses, Taxis/Cabs, Cars, Cycling, Walking.

Issues covered, for example:

  • Price, route and frequency of buses

  • Bike racks – safety and availability

  • Parking charges

  • Spaces for motorbikes

  • Footpaths and pedestrian crossings

  • Taxi v Cab – should they be integrated? Etc

Communication & Media

Issues covered, for example:

  • Mobile phones, tariffs, number portability, reception, health warnings

  • Internet services

  • TV Digital switchover

  • Sky and VAT

  • BBC licences etc

  • Advertising

E-Commerce, Retail

Issues Covered, for example

  • Price Watch
  • VAT
  • Distance selling laws
  • Distance buying rights
  • Sunday trading etc

 

 

Legal and Regulation

Issues covered, for example

  • Public Consultations
  • Draft Laws and Propositions
  • Income Support
  • Financial Ombudsman
  • Depositor’s protection scheme

Utilities

Issues covered, for example

  • JEC price hikes, annual reports, customer care

  • Jersey Gas price hikes, annual reports, customer care

  • Jersey Water rates, meter system, quality, annual reports

  • Domestic heating oil

  • Jersey Telecom, Aertel, Cable & Wireless annual report, connection charges, customer care etc
