Social Security – Arrival of Income SupportSocial Security have decided to introduce the streamlined but, perhaps, controversial benefit system early in January 2008 rather than this summer because they say they want to allow more time for people to fully understand it. “The detailed proposals for Income Support will be published in the week beginning 9 July. At that time, information will be available for all stakeholders and interest groups. The States will debate the proposals on 26 September. Once approved, there will be a period of full public communication, so that everyone who receives a benefit or allowance will understand fully the effect of the new scheme, before it is introduced in January.” –Senator Paul RoutierThe States claim they are changing the system so that “funds available are given to those who need help most”. Possibly funds should have been made available to help people fill out the preposterously complicated and lengthy application forms!? But please, if you receive one of these forms – do fill it in and return it otherwise it could seriously effect your payment. If you receive any of the following benefits and have NOT received a form, call Social Security and ask for one to be sent out, otherwise you might be “disqualified” from your benefit. The following is a list of all the benefits and allowances which will be replaced by Income Support:
Adult Disablement Allowance (ADA) Attendance Allowance (AA) Child Disablement Allowance (CDA) Childcare Allowance Education Maintenance Allowance Disabled Transport Allowance (DTA) Family Allowance Health Insurance Exception (HIE) Home Study Grant Parish Welfare Rent Abatement Rent Rebate School-age Discount Scheme Subsidised Milk
